Fujiyoshidatypes

Fujiyoshida, Japan 2022

Inspired by Agnes Varda’s film Daguerrotypes which explores a street in Paris through it’s shops and shopkeepers. Fujiyoshidatypes is an attempt to reflect a place and it’s atmosphere through

an assemblage of objects and painted scenes. The works are sculpted and painted on vintage fabric from the town’s once bustling textile industry. Hung from the ceiling on bamboo, paintings on fabric of the interior of an opticians, and an antique shop. On the floor objects escape the picture frame, eye glasses, an urn are painted and modelled in wire and silk. Elsewhere a large pair of glasses and a net curtain both painted on silk reflect the noren fabric hung outside Japanese shops.
